Seed visibility. Synching only deletes if other changes

Post by DnlPbl »

1) Shouldn't the encryption seed be masked (***) instead of being visible in its' text box?

2) Synching jobs do not delete files in the destination unless files have been added or changed in the source. Shouldn't the destination mirror the source under all scenarios?

3) Is system standby / hibernation delayed if a job is currently running?

Thanx

Seed visibility. Synching deletes & Hibernation

Post by Barry »

1/ The mask was mainly to set ‘your companies (or group of users)’ copies of AISBackup to the same seed to prevent other companies reading the backup. This is only really needed if the ‘Restore without password’ option is selected. If the password seed was changed, by design or accident, and the old password seed forgotten, then you would not be able to read the backup, and neither would we.

2/ I see your point, this used to happen with backups too.

3/ Standby / Hibernation is activated after all jobs in the queue have been run, even if a new job is added to the queue during processing. Standby / Hibernation does not delay for any on-AISBackup process.

1) Aside from the uses you mentioned, does specifying an encryption seed provide extra security, in general?

2) Any chance a future version will force appropriate deletions of destination files for all scenarios?

3) It sounds like you're saying that standby/hibernation IS delayed while any AISBackup job is running, but any other automated processes are a different story. Is that right?

Thanx

1/ There is no additional security, the seed is used to determine the start point (32bit number) of the encryption algorithm.

2/ This will be looked at for version 2.2

3/ Yes, it is delayed for AISBackup but does not check the task scheduler for pending execution of other jobs. This option was asked for by people who generally know that AISBackup is the last program to run on the PC at night. There are ‘window’ parameters which only enable hibernation during certain times of the day.
