Outlook.pst not copying even though other exclusive files do

Post by DnlPbl »

AISBackup Ver: 2.2.0.262

Windows:
XP Pro
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

This is a Synch mirror job.
My Outlook.pst file will not copy while Outlook is opened.
Although, there are other opened exclusive files that copy fine while in use.
Shouldn't the .pst file copy while in use, just like the others?

Outlook.pst

Post by Barry »

Outlook.pst is not opened exclusively by outlook but actually changes size during the backup so may not have been picked up correctly. The problem may be related to the SQL Server file problem in that Backup Opened Exclusive Files may not be checked? I did come across a problem recently where a networked computer which held outlook.pst open, the pst files backed up with zero size - is this happening with your file?

Prior to version 2.2 Outlook would have to be closed prior to the backup so most users of AISbackup would not have seen this problem.

Is the Volume Copy Shadow Service (What AISBackup calls Preparing to Backup Opened Exclusive Files) initialising properly on your PC?

This problem will be looked at prior to 2.2 release.

Backup Opened Exclusive Files IS checked
No, the pst is NOT copying with a size of zero; it does not copy at all and an error is displayed - "1 Files failed to copy. Click errors to display the skipped files."

I just took another look at the log and it shows some interesting things.
I've emailed it to you.

"Prior to version 2.2 Outlook would have to be closed prior to the backup so most users of AISbackup would not have seen this problem."

That's exactly how I was doing this with V 2.1 and it worked very well.

Thanx

Failing to backup files whose size changes

Post by Barry »

This fault has been found in the beta and is fixed from build 263.

If the file size changes AISBackup did not add the file to the 'Opened Exclusive' list.

I see. I'll be looking forward to build 263.
