Backup fails with Plextor DVD

Post by drose1517 »

I have no reason to believe the following problem is version 2.2 related; however, when I loaded 2.2 build 262 was also the first time I tried using DVD+R discs rather than CDs.

The backup seems to proceed normally, but by the third disk I start gettung the following errors and the backup ultimately fails or seems to finish but cannot be verified.

9:49:51 PM ERR Exception during free space calculation
9:49:51 PM EXCEPTION Exception: EAccessViolation: Access violation at address 004043B0 in module 'AISBACKUP.exe'. Read of address 302D32F8
9:49:51 PM EXCEPTION Component: DirStruct1

Free Space Calculation

Please e-mail the complete log for this job and if possible (and if you have time) please re-run the backup with CD Debug turned on, this gives more CD related information in the log. To set this mode, from the AISBackup main form, press * until ****** CD Debug mode ******* is displayed in the caption bar.

Was the error message given before disc 2 was written or after disc 2 was tested?

If disc 1 and 2 have been created successfully the AISBackup can be set to resume the backup from where it failed:

I assume disc 1 was written to and validated successfully.

It is not clear if disc 2 was completed and tested? If it was:

Load disc 2 and choose the Manage Backup / Import backup Contents File option and open the <job>.bdb file from the second DVD. If this disc was not tested then you may use the Manage Backup / Validate (Test) Backup option to test the files on the disc. The next backup session will then backup files and folders not already backed up on disc 1 or 2.

Problems like this can be caused by faulty media (One user had problems when re-using the same DVD+RW) The problem may also be fixed by installing the latest DVD drive firmware (if available). However, this is an unexpected error so with your help we can find out what happened and give a more meaningful error message.

Oops, an e-mail from Dudley sent prior to the forum message shows a more complete log, see below.

The fault appears to be after the disc has been created but before the test phase, is this true?

Hi Barry,

In the log I sent you, that is true. I have another log, which seems to indicate testing proceeded for one of the disks, but then ran into the same problem around the third disc. Also, even on the ones that seemed okay, I could not get it to verify the backup.

I'll send you that log in a separate email.

Thanks,
Dudley Rose
