Misreported backup size

Post by Brian E »

Still problems with some autorunning backups indicating backup size way in excess of the actual value (perhaps by a factor of a hundred or so).

Estimated backup size

Post by Barry »

Is that the estimated backup size?

This is often not very accurate because it is based on the compressed size of files of the same type spread over a few file size ranges. The more files selected for backup the more accurate the figure should be.

Actually, I've just realised that it's my eyesight that's in error! Having looked more closely when I thought this had occurred again (today), I could see that the estimated size was in kb (e.g., 930kb). I had assumed the size of the backup was being displayed in Mb, since CR-R(W)'s are normally expressed in Mb of capacity. Perhaps it would be better if the above (as an example) were expressed as 0.93Mb, rather than 930kb?
