Indicate success or failure in email subject

I would like to see a more infomative subject line in the autorun completion email.

Currently, the subject line is:

AISBackup: Autorun <date and time>

I would prefer to see:

AISBackup: Autorun <status> - <backup name>

...where <status> is either:
"FAILED" (where the backup did not run at all, or finished with errors)
or "success" (where the backup has completely finished without errors)

This would allow the use of mail client rules to treat messages differently depending on success or failure.

The date and time is not necessary in the subject line, as this isalways the same as the message timestamp.

Many thanks!
Graham

The status line in a backup that failed here on the weekend was:

AISBackup: C and Pictures to External 2_5|FAIL|OK=649|FAIL=1|VALERR=0|

i.e.

AISBackup:<Jobname>|FAIL|....

if the job worked:

AISBackup:<Jobname>|OK|....

AISBackup has displayed this format of the subject for several years.

Hi Barry

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am puzzled, however...

I am running the latest version (build 380). I just unplugged my external backup drive and released a nightly job from the task scheduler. This is the resulting email:

Subject: AISBackup: Autorun Wednesday, 7 July 2010 12:14:35

Message:
------------------------------------
AISBackup: Auto Run On Wednesday, 7 July 2010 12:14:35

Job: Library

Backup completed with errors (Failed to open backup)
------------------------------------

Why are we seeing different messages?

Please accept my humble apologies.
The e-mail option you chose is a general e-mail option for scheduled jobs where more than one job could be selected for backup, this option is set using the option:

Tools / Auto Running AISBackup / E-mail Settings tab

I suggest that you remove the e-mail address from this option and use the per-job e-mail setting instead. The per job e-mail setting is selected using the option:

Select the job / Manage Backup / Change Backup Job Settings / E-Mail Log Options

You have many more e-mail options using this option:

Choose when the log is sent, e.g. only if the job fails when auto-running.

The actual log file may also be included in the e-mail, either in the message body or as an attachment in various formats including rtf, html, dynamic html.

I hope you find this option meets your requirements.

Ah! thank you, Barry. I will give that a go. I'm sure it will meet my requirements :)

As a feature enhancement though, what do you think of the idea of changing the subject line for the general email?

Cheers,
Graham

That would be okay if only one backup job was seleted.

If more than 1 job: If any fail the subject will show Multiple Jobs|FAIL| and if all okay Multiple Jobs|OK|. Just do not name a job Multiple Jobs to avoid confusion ;-)

I suggest that there should be a clear indicator on this with the current version

Hi Barry,

Why not provide a default Subject as a string formatted with quoted test and variables, a a list of all backup variables available and allow users to customize their subject Line as they wish.

Subject: Aisbackup:[JobName] [Status], successfully backed up [Pass] files, Failed [Failed], Space remaining on [Destination] [Space], Elapsed time [Elapsed]

Where sample runtime replaceable variables are:
[JobName]
[Status]
[Pass]
[Failed]
[Destination]
[Space]
and any other variables you can share with the user that may be informative
