Protect specific sessions?

Post by bluewave »

After a recent crash, I found I wanted to protect the session immediately prior to the crash from pruning, while I sorted out what had gone on. I also wanted to continue backing up and pruning otherwise.

As far as I can tell I can't do this - I can only protect via various pruning rules. Would it be possible in the "view sessions" to have a check box allowing the manual protection from pruning of individual sessions?

Otherwise, a great product - fast and actually works!

Regards,

Keeping sessions

Post by Barry »

AISBackup is able to retain sessions:

Click the Sessions Tab on the main form.

Right Click the Session you want to retain

Choose the menu option Disable Auto Prune

Perhaps we should rename this option Retain Session?

Thanks Barry,

I do not seem to get that option by right clicking sessions - I only get

Restore from session
Edit Comment
View Session Files
Cancel

How do I get the 'disable prune' option?

using 2.1 build 250

Protecting sessions

The session protection option is only available when advanced sessions are used, to do this click the Manage Backup / Edit Backup Job Parameters / Advanced Session Management Button (from version 2.2 this will be: Manage Backup / Change Backup Job Settings / Session Settings Tab / Click Advanced Session Management option / Click Edit Advanced Session Management button)

Functionally equivalent to normal session based jobs:

Retain 1 of Today’s Sessions / Delete Excess Sessions: Next Backup Day

Retain x Daily Backup Sessions

However, there may be a better mix of options which fits your need.

After creating Advanced Sessions the Disable Auto Prune option is available (From version 2.2 this will be called (Disable Auto Prune (Keep This Session))
