Recommended CD Writers
Can you recommend good CD Writers for AIS Backup? I am looking for one that would allow backup without staging on the HD. I have tried INCD for a while now but keeps crashing my Win2000 Pro Machine. Want to try others but would like some recommendations.

Hi
Have you downloaded the latest version of INCD from the Nero web-site? This may fix the crash problem. There may also be a firmware upgrade available for your CD writer.

For packet writing I actually prefer Roxio DirectCD because this product can write to CD-R CD’s as well as CD-RW, CD-R are faster and can be more reliable.
There are advantages to using the integrated AISBackup CD Writer as this method makes CD-ROM style CD’s which can be read on PC’s that do not have a packet writing system (or UDF reader). The down-side is, as you pointed out, AISBackup needs to write each CD’s worth of data to the hard drive first.
Most CD Writers come with CD burning software. As you already use Nero look for a CD writer that uses Roxio so that you can check out DirectCD. Please note that INCD and DirectCD cannot co-exist in the same Windows environment.
All CD writers should work with AISBackup but it is an advantage to get one that works with DMA enabled. We have a TDK that refuses to work with DMA set, The TDK support desk advised us to disable DMA, the CD writer works but not at the higher write speeds. The last CD writer we purchased was an inexpensive AOpen 48x12x50, this works fine at full speed with DMA set (48X write with CD-R).
The DMA problem seems to affect PC’s using the VIA chipset, it may be worth installing the latest VIA 4 in 1, if your PC uses this chipset.
