Can't create a Disaster Recovery Disk

Post by rmonysko »

AISBackup 2.9.0.398
Windows 7 SP-1
LaCie External USB Backup (two 500GB drives in Raid 1)

Can't complete making a Restore Disk.
Installed WAIK from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... n&id=10333 even though the Title on this site says it's for Vista (AISBackup Help says it will work with 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7). I am following the graphical steps and, on graphical step #5, I am confused. I don't at all understand the two parts needed to make the restore disk. Do I need to download the ISO image from the web site? If so, I can't find it. Also confusing is that the Help file doesn't seem to have kept up with the program. For instance, the Help file says to click on Extra Tools - but the choices don't match what's shows elsewhere in the Help file. The easiest way to explain this is to compare what Extra Tools shows in the current version to what was in some version in the past. Also, how do I know if I need extra drivers? Does the external USB backup destination need a driver that I need to add to the Disaster DVD? Can the Disaster disk be a CD *OR* a DVD? I have Nero if I need a burn program. I am not very familiar with burning disks - but I have a few re-writable DVD's and many blank CD's. I would like to end up with at least two Disaster disks in case one goes bad. Barry, I apologize for my previous email - I should have gone through the Forum in the first place. The video didn't help me - I'm sorry - but I find it very difficult to follow. Also, my head pain which I've had every day for the past 11 years is getting worse and I usually have a hard time concentrating. Please help me. After all these years using AISBackup, I have never succeeded in creating what I need most - the Recovery media. I hope I included all the information you need. Thank you...... :D

Video for making restore CD

Post by Barry »

You say that the video does not help but if you click the exact same buttons as in the video you will end up with a restore CD that is equivalent to a regular Windows 7 set-up DVD in terms of what it will support.

I guess we should have gone for a real simple set-up and only mention the extras, such as installing your own drivers, in a troubleshooting section. Perhaps the making of an AISBackup set-up CD is also superfluous as AISBackup can easily be downloaded?

The WAIK option is more complex than the download option and this should only be used if you MUST install device drivers in order for your PC to work with the boot CD. Maybe the PDF is easier to follow if you need to use WAIK? The PDF instructions are also on the video page.

Here are the links:
Restore CD video preferred method: http://aiscl.co.uk/showvideo.php?v=16
Restore CD WAIK method: http://aiscl.co.uk/showvideo.php?v=8

The quick answer to knowing if you need additional drivers is to try the restore CD; there is a file viewer option that you may use to look for you USB external drive etc.

The help vs. program will be reviewed in view of your comments.
