Exclude registry from restore to new destination?

Post by JeffBuckles »

Old computer had 12 GB hard drive.
New computer has 300 GB hard drive.
The new computer has a complete new OS install
and the data has been copied over already.

However, I would like to keep a complete image of the
old hard drive on the new computer. I have a full backup
of the old drive already. I would like to simply restore
this old backup to the new computer changing the destination
folder to some place under "My Documents"
My question is: how will the registry be handled.
I specifically do _not_ want the registry to be udpated on
the new computer -- I only want the files.

Will I have to explicitly find and exclude the registry files from
the restore, or will AIS backup be "smart" enough to figure out
that since I changed the destination, this is not a root drive and
it should not restore the registry?

Thanks and Best Regards,

It is okay to go ahead with this restore without damaging the running operating system.

AISBackup will make changes to the restored registry files and but not the current registry. The log messages are:

Restored Registry Disk ID set okay.
Registry prepared for new Windows Disk.

These changes have not been made to the current operating system’s registry.
