Backup to: Disc with Unknown

Post by rodscholl »

I seem to have corrupted my AISBackup settings. I upgraded to 2.4 -- and also unwittingly deleted the backup folder including the .bdb file.

I have used 2.3 in the past sucessfully many times. And have an old disk with a .bdb file to use so that my settings are not lost. However, I cannot seem to run a backup because of trouble writing to the DVD.

I've tried many settings, but the latest setting give me the error box:
The CD/DVD packet writing system has not been activated. [ok]

Under Program settings and options it recognizes my device:
_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A [R01]

unchecked-direct to CD,DVD compatible devices. (no packet writing system detected)
checked - Enable AISBackup integrated
unchecked - Enable third party disc mastering application
unchecked dvd writer present:

When I use TroubleshootCD/DVD writer faults:
I click "no" on the first box asking if my system can write directly to CD or DVD...

It responds:
Detecgted CD Writer:
_NEC DVD+-RV ND-6500A2.NO
ASPI Set to : Binarymagics version 1.0.0.0
The itegrated disc writer has been enabled for backups to CD or DVD.
A DVD writer has been detected.
No Packet writing system:Disabled.
[OK]

As far as choosing the ASPI driver... I've tried a few but for this post I'll click on Current AISBACKUP ASPI Driver:
binary magics WNASPI32.DLL
Supplied with AISBACKUP, suitable for WinNT...
Will not work with 95,98...
version 1.0.0.0
Detected Drives:
0:1:0,D: _NEC DVD+-RV ND-6500A2.NO

As a final clue, on the "ALl Jobs" tab, with my job selected, the backup destination says [CD]:\Full.zip... and the line above it, Backup to: says Disc with [] where [] is an ascii character which usually shows up with the program doesn't recognize the actual character. For my earlier messing around this used to say "not known"... now it just has that Disc with *unknown character thingy*.

Here's a good backup log file:

Recovering backup where database has been deleted

Post by Barry »

Try removing the backup from the list of backups using Manage Backup / Remove Backup Job From List, do not archive or delete the backup (if somebody is reading this for a disk based backup) if asked.

Then use the Tools / Open Job From Backup Media option and re-instate the backup - everything should now be as it was.

Ah of course! That did it!

To confirm for others, I wiped out the existing job -- and then when I restore the job from the old CD, AISBACKUP now recognize the "Backup to" as an AISBACKUP mastered Disc.

Thanks Barry -- awesome tool. Awesome support. We'll continue to plug it in our publications and with our customers!
