Pruning advanced session management

Post by Hughg »

I've just had to change my advanced session management settings for one of my backup jobs, to reduce the number of daily, weekly and monthly sessions retained (the backup was just too big). I couldn't find a way of getting AISBackup to prune the existing backups so that all the jobs that were no longer needed were deleted. I'm guessing that this would have happened when I next ran the backup job, but the problem was that the destination disk was full so the backup wouldn't run. Is there a way of doing this pruning without having to run the job?

You are correct in that the expired sessions will be pruned the next time a backup is run, to remove these backup files now:

Select the job and click the Sessions tab

Make a note of the Expired job session numbers.

Click Manage Backup / Undo Backups (Prune Backup Sessions)

Select the expired sessions noted above

Click Delete.

This option does require some workspace as the files are removed from a zip file via a temporary file.

Another way to reclaim space is to delete files that are no longer needed in the backup using the Manage Backup / Backup Maintenance option.
