Return of problem: Failure to read disc before testing phase

Post by Brian E »

I have recently loaded build 295 onto my office PC and whether it is coincidence or not I don't know, but I am one again receiving an error message after a backup runs to the effect that the disc cannot be accessed. However, after hitting retry, it does carry on with the testing phase as normal (when this error occurred last time, I couldn't test or access the backup at all).

This problem doesn't appear to be affecting all my backups.

Actually, it does appear to be affecting all my backups. Also, if I carry out a backup manually, rather than using the autorun feature, I don't get this problem.

Disc writer

A new disc wrter is been looked at, but this is not without problems either, and we are waiting for an update.

These issues will be looked at, but may take a week or two.

I have the same problem. When backing up manually it works ok,
when doing a scheduled backup the program stops with an error
message and I have to open-shut the DVD drive before the program
continues.

Can I go back to an old version of AIS Backup? The backups were
working fine before.

Scheduled backups and disk writer

Please confirm that AISBackup always works when run interactively and always fails when auto-run. Does AISBackup also fail when a desktop shortcut is created and AISBackup executed by double clicking this shortcut? (Manage Backup / Create Shortcut for this backup job).

Is the auto-run job running a full backup by erasing the backup media?

AISBackup disc interface

If possible please send me a copy of a log file showing a working interactive session and a failing on-interactive session. (using Help / Bug Report)

Running the job interactively always works

Running the job as a schedule always fails

Running the job from a shortcut fails. It reaches the verify stage, the DVD drive open and closes and the program stops with the "cannot be accessed" error message. Clicking "Re-try" does not help, I get the same error message. Opening and closing the DVD drive manually and then clicking "Re-try" works as it does with the scheduled job

The job is an incremental backup continuing on the same DVD without erasing it.

I have sent you two bug reports, the first one after doing an interactive session which worked, the second one after startingf form the shortcut and pressing "skip" when the program hung.

Log file for the second case, when I used "skip":
