Scheduled backup fails

Post by Brian »

AISbackup 2.2

MS taskscheduler shows the task. It's set to:Every 10 minutes from 5:00 AM for 24 hours every Mon........Sun

AISbackup shows: Next Schedule: Monday (a day instead of 10 mins)

I tried rescheduling etc. With the another schedule AISbackup seemed to know the correct scheduled times but every time the the backups where reported as missed. But there was no reason for missing the schedule.

10 minute schedule

Post by Barry »

The actual schedules are independent of AISBackup as they are controlled by Microsoft Task Scheduler. I tested a 10 minute job over 24 hours on a Monday through Sunday weekly schedule and this worked okay. The next schedule was also correctly updated as was the last run date in both version 2.2 (build 271) and the pre-release version 2.3.

Please check the scheduler log for any problem with the schedule, this may be done using AISBackup’s View / MS Task Scheduler Log

Please attach the job files using the Help / Bug Report option and the actual schedule shortcut to an e-mail if you would like more information.

I have this problem if I have used the DVD drive for something else in between. The sheduler log says that the program was run but if I look
on the times it is clear that the program just started and then imediately stopped again.

My soultion is to delete the job from MS sheduler and then enter it again each time I have used the DVD player for other stuff.

DVD and scheduler?

Post by Barry »

I'll look into this.

Have you got MusicMatch jukebox on the PC? The task mim.exe can often cause problems with DVD and CD access - and not just with AISBackup either.

There should be no reason why the schedule would not run next time even if it did not interface with the DVD writer correctly in the failed run.

No, I do not have the jukebox and mim.exe is not on my computer. It does not happen every time after using the DVD writer, just now and then. Possibly it could be something els and not using the writer but so far I think it has happened only after that I have used the DVD.

A log extract from task skeduler:
"AISBACKUP - adata.job" (AISBACKUP.exe)
Started 9/19/2006 1:00:00 AM
"AISBACKUP - adata.job" (AISBACKUP.exe)
Finished 9/19/2006 1:00:02 AM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (0).

this one took 2 seconds only and did not backup anything. The following one worked ok:

"AISBACKUP - adata.job" (AISBACKUP.exe)
Started 9/21/2006 1:00:00 AM
"AISBACKUP - adata.job" (AISBACKUP.exe)
Finished 9/21/2006 10:05:00 AM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (0)"

Scheduled backup

Post by Barry »

Does the actual AISBackup log have a message indicating why it did not run? Has the run once per day option been set? This is indicated by the run time parameter C after the |. Run Once Per Day means that AISBackup will only run the backup once per day even if it is started many times, the option is usually used if the backup is run at start-up but only the first time you start the PC each day.

There are no AIS backup logfiles for the nights when it did not run as it should. Below you will find an extract from the scheduled tasks log file. There is one AIS logfile dated Oct 14, the next logfile is dated Oct 17.

The run once option is not set. I have the PC running continously with the task scheduler starting the data backup at 0200 each night. There is one
pre-job that kills Thunderbird and Firefox in case they are running so their files can be backed up too.

As I said the problem happens sporadically but if it start it seems to go on for a few days until I note it and delete AIS backup form the skeduler and then add it once more
