DVD maximum write speed?

Post by bluewave »

I've just upgraded to new computer with DVD instead of CD writer.

My drive is capable of DVD+R 8x writing and I'm using 8x DVD+R media. AISBackup internal writer will only let me select 2.4x maximum, which is slow. How can I burn faster? Computer is fast enough to support faster I think (while writing CPU is <10% load).

Apart from this, backs up and restores from DVD just fine. Sorry if the answer to this is somewhere else, had a look but can't find it.

Writer burn speed

AISBackup sets the speed to maximum so that problem is likely one of the following:

Set AISBackup speed to Maximum - I guess you have already done that.

The firmware needs updating: An LG DVDRAM-4163B had the same problem here ntil the firmware was updated. Check the laptop manufacturer for firmware updates.

The disc is not been recognised as an 8X disc. It may be worth trying a different brand. Even now the LG does sees some brands of 8X as 4X but will detect one brand of 16X as 16X - why not try 16X media - this should atleast burn at 8X.

It may also be worth checking that DMA mode is set for the drive as PIO mode will cause very slow writing.
