Backup to LAN and burn to DVD

Post by Brian »

I'm doing daily backups to a server on my LAN.
How do I burn the archives to DVD so that they can be easily restored?
My backups need several DVDs to fit on.

If that's not possible I like to suggest a feature.
Create DVD sized .iso files ready for burning perhaps?

Copying a backup to DVD

Post by Barry »

If your network is up to it you may use the Manage Backup / Copy Backup to CD or DVD option, if the network is not up to streaming the data to DVD put a copy of AISBackup on the networked PC and run it from there. The second option is my recommendation as burning over the network did not work too well here - if the network gets busy the burn may fail.

If AISBackup is for home use you may run a registered copy on two PC's.

It's for home use.
I like to use one copy on the backup server. That server is soley for storing backups and should take care of the processing (I know about the cpu slider)
My gbit lan has no problems with streaming. (at 8 speed)
Besides that Nero avoids buffer underruns.

The option you suggested has some problems (if I understand you correctly)

a] The backup server just a remote controled box without a burner.
b] I have 2 nightly backup jobs and 1 hourly.
c] The nightly jobs require discswapping.

For me the best solution would be:
a] Use the advanced 'HD based' backup solutions.
b] When I have time click a 'burn to DVD button that actually burns or creates .ISOs with some index system.
When I want to restore from the DVD I put in the fist DVD find the file and restore. AIS should ask me for the correct DVD.

Ofcourse I can also burn all the zips to DVD and copy em all back to HD when restoring.
That's is very rarely needed. Only when HDs on both the main and backup PC crash. So no high priority. Just a suggestion
