Back Up Scenario

SBS 2003 Server
RAID 1 SATA150 Drives

I want to do a full backup, for disaster recovery to CD or DVD (Not the USB or FireWire method).

I would like to be able to drop the CD in and boot off that and reinstall.

Is this possible, and if so are there any detailed instructions on how to do this on a SBS 2003 server? As I’m sure there are a list of files that need to be backed up, but are going to be in use, and would need to best way to proceed...

Thanks In Advance.!!

Restore options

Windows 2003 and XP require an NTFS compatible operating system to be running in order to restore the operating system. This can be achieved by installing Windows and then restoring the backup ‘over the top’. AISBackup provides instructions for doing this, although, if at all possible, I would recommend testing the procedure before having to do it for real.

We are working on instructions for using a bootable CD using Bart’s Pre Installed Environment (BartPE). This option will only work with Windows XP SP1 or higher and Windows 2003 (all flavours). We are going to provide a small program for integrating AISBackup into BartPE although they do provide instructions for doing this.

See notes in the forum Restoration report sticky (above) for possible problems with RAID.

Whether or not you use AISBackup for your backup solution you may like to look at BartPE boot CD for assisting with troubleshooting Windows problems.
