Windows 2003 Server backup and recovery

Post by Panteradon »

In order to recover the Windows 2003 system from a full disaster( no operating system available), do I first need to reinstall a fresh 2003 Server operating system, a new backup program, and then recover over the operating system?

Thanks

Disaster recovery options

Your method of restore is correct, but there is a quicker way if you have another compatible computer:

If you have another computer running an Operating system that can access NTFS drives it is probably quicker to install a disk into this computer, format it, make it ‘Active’ (so it can be booted from) then restore the Server 2003 backup to this disk and then install the disk into the Server 2003 ‘box’.

Another method is to install a disk into a USB or FireWire caddy, format the drive and make it ‘Active’, restore the backup to this (via another computer).

Either a normal AISBackup or Disk to Disk copy option may be used.
