You are probably unable to backup from the remote PC because you are trying to use the ‘Administrative shares’ C$ or D$ etc. Try setting up a share on the remote PC as follows:
(Windows 2000)
1/ From Windows Explorer: Right click a drive and choose ‘Sharing’.
2/ Select ‘New Share’
3/ Type in a share name such as C_Drive
4/ The default permission is Everybody / Full so you may leave this as it is unless you are working in a secure environment.
5/ Click OK
(Windows 95, 98 & ME)
1/ From Windows Explorer: Right click a drive and choose ‘Sharing’.
2/ Select option ‘Shared As’
3/ Type in a share name such as C_Drive
(Windows XP)
1/ From Windows Explorer: Right click a drive and choose ‘Sharing and Security’
2/ If you are sharing the root of the drive rather than a folder Windows will give a warning message, just ‘click here’
3/ Click ‘Share this folder on the network'
4/ Optionally change the share name, G_DRIVE may be easier to remember than DISKNAME (G)
5/ Optionally select ‘Allow network users to change my files’ (or you will not be able to restore files to the PC).
From the PC you are backing up from:
1/ From Windows Explorer choose map network drive.
2/ If the remote PC is an NT based machine you may have to supply a valid user name and password in order to connect to the share, if possible use the same username and password on both PCs or AISBackup will not be able to automatically map the share names itself.
3/ type in the share name \\COMPUTER_NAME\SHARE_NAME
4/ You may now select the files and folders that you want to backup using the ‘Manage Backup / Add or Remove Files from the Script’ menu option.
5/ As an alternative to option 3 you may select the Map Network Drive option (Click F1 for help
).
