Re: Restore PC

Did you look at the disaster recovery video on the web site? Yes, it seems really simple. Please note that the boot files are normally stored on a second partition on new Windows 7 builds, and this is normally hidden. However AISBackup can backup and restore this partition (and make it active!). I ...

Can't restore with AISBU restore CD

Hello Barry. I made a backup restore CD, following your instructions, and it seems to work fine. Then I did a backup to a USB drive of the entire C: partition in my new Win7 machine. I wanted to test it so I booted an old computer using the restore CD, and formatted the C: partition (which had been ...

Can I restore Windows 7 like this?

With Windows XP, if I needed to restore the OS partition because of a crash or whatever, I would do a fresh install of Windows then restore my latest backup over it. It always worked like a charm. Can I do the same thing with Win7?
Thanks

Okay, looks like we're good. I had renamed the boot (C) partition and that apparently caused Windows much distress.:) In System Protection, it showed two C: partitions: the original, which was shown as "missing" but had protection turned on, and the real one (new name) with protection turn...

Do I need AISFAM with Win 7 x64?

Just tried my first backup with windows 7 64-bit and VSS failed to initialize. From reading some threads, it seems I need to buy AISFAM but I can't find where it explicitly says that. Is that correct?

moving from XP to Win 7

Hello all. I've moving from an XP machine to one with Win 7. I do backups to an external (USB) drive and I've made 2 assumptions regarding the move: 1) I can simply plug the external drive into the new machine and use Tools/Open job from backup media to load the files into the new machine. 2) I can ...

backup from FAT32, restore to NTFS?

Hello folks. My mother-in-law's computer was set up as FAT32 and she's getting a new hard drive. I've done a backup of her FAT32 C: partition and I'm wondering if I can set up her new hard drive as NTFS and then restore that backup onto her new C partition. (Okay, the whole plan is to do a new insta...

Well, I'm running build 348 now, but I forgot to run the VSS routine and it still backs up exclusive-opened files just fine! :D I've run 4 backups (with opened exclusive files) since downloading 348, and it hasn't failed yet.
Does that make any sense to you?
Thanks

Re: VSS problem

Well, it's taken me a while to look at this because we're getting ready to move. Opened exclusive files are files that are opened by a process and locked by that process so that no other process running on the system can open the file. The files of the Windows Registry are opened exclusive by the Wi...

Well, I guess I found at least part of the problem. But why isn't the Volume Shadow Copy service initializing? I went to the control panel and it was set to Started, Manual. I changed it from Manual to Automatic and that didn't fix the problem. So I re-started the service and re-ran the backup, but ...

I've sent the bug report.

AISB hangs during unattended backups

Hello folks. This problem started a few months ago, shortly after I installed Smartdefrag, but continues even after I uninstalled it. If I sit and watch the backup and close AISB as soon as the backup is finished, there is no problem. But if I go to do something else while the backup is running, whe...

yes, I knew about the restore CD, but that large download is impossible with dial-up internet, which is all that's available to us here. that's why I was looking into BartPE.
Thanks

What's the connection between AISB and BartPE?

I know what BartPE is for, but I don't understand the purpose of the AISB plugin for BartPE.
Thanks
