Registration key not accepted in Vista
I've just installed AISBackup on a Vista replacement for an older machine, and moved the AISBackup.aik key file to the program directory. But AISBackup doesn't seem to recognize it -- the program starts up in trial mode. Is there anything funny about Vista interfering with product registration?

Well, the event logs didn't show anything. I established that it was freezing at the point at which it starts preparing to deal with open files, but that was that. However, this time rebooting seems to have cured it. It hasn't always in the past. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and try to spot a...

Backup freezing
Barry -- I don't know whether this is a beta problem or whether it's been around for a while. Sometimes my full system backups are freezing. I haven't seen a pattern in where it's happening, and it doesn't happen every time. Just now it did it during the exclusively-opened file backing up process, b...

Thanks for drawing my attention to this thread, Barry. I agree entirely with Kirby on both counts -- I think your pruning idea is superb, and I, too, can't praise AISBackup highly enough. It's already saved my life several times. I love the formal elegance of Kirby's idea, but I think your suggestio...

Question about Sessions
Could I check that I understand how sessions work? I have a database which I backup regularly, which consists of a main file and a bunch of small ones in a subdirectory. All of the files get changed regularly, and the small ones get added to or deleted as well. I use the "session" method o...

Sorry about the delay in replying: I hadn't realized this was going to be such a difficult issue, but I can see why, now you're explained it. First principle I'd suggest is as follows: I'd avoid getting into any solutions that are backup media-specific. One of the great strengths of AISBackup, as fa...

Pruning old backups
Is there a neater way of doing the following than the one I've thought of? I want to be able to combine daily backups with being able to go back several months. The only way I can think of doing this without having a massive set of backup files (i.e. daily backups going back a year or so) is to have...

Max zip file size for backup to ftp site
I'm backing up to an ftp site, and although I've set the maximum file size before compression to 25MB (I'd actually like it smaller -- can it be set lower?) the biggest zip file in the backup is around 76 MB. I'm using build 210 on a Win XP platform -- am I doing something wrong?

Changing notification
Barry -- is there a way of changing the notification mode (e.g. from displaying a message reporting that all went well with a scheduled backup, to displaying a message if it didn't) for existing backup jobs?

I'll check for the form-behind-a-form possibility: I know what you mean, and that could well have been part of the problem. Actually, the CD writer didn't change; it was the motherboard that was upgraded. And I'm usually careful to pick a slow speed (4X) on disks that can record faster (10x). So I d...

Trouble setting up scheduled job
Hi Barry Strange behaviour: when I start scheduling a job, after the first screen on which I pick the days for the job to run, I get a dialog saying "I was expecting you to: Enter a time." I click on "OK" and find myself looking at the screen that lets me schedule a time. I do so...
