Barry, Your explanation mostly makes sense to me. Bugs I understand -- I generate plenty of them myself! I was with you up to: >>...but there is no way to determine the date an actual file was deleted, although we can accurately set the ‘deleted’ status of changed files<< and there I lost you...

efficiency of very large restore jobs
For the first time, I've attempted a massive restore from a massive AISB backup, and I've seen something I'm dubious about. I've stewed on this for a several hours trying to see the logic in it, but I'm stumped. Maybe I've done somthing wrong? My issue is this: each file gets restored many times. Th...

Barry, 1 - It would be super if you could implement a change/add password function. I'll watch for it in future versions. A favor: if it does not work out (which sometimes happens), please put a note somewhere to that effect, so I know to find another way. 2 - session pruning is super!!!! Though I h...

add password retroactively?
I've stupidly create a big complex backup scheme with several different jobs, with no passwords. Now I need to add passwords.
Is there any recourse short of starting over?
Fearfully,
Kirby

Barry, Superb. Anything like this will be excellent. Sounds super flexible. Please consider the case of two backups in one day. This is sometimes really handy for just-before-update, just-after-update situations. Sounds like you have already considered the missed-day problem. (Arcserve has kittens w...

--Proposal for Alternate Session Purge Method--
Presently, AIS Backup purges sessions eldest first. This is the simplest and most generally useful method. This is a quasi-formal proposal for an additional optional method. First, a few definitions: for any integer x, FindFirstOne(x), or ffo(x), is the position of the rightmost one in the binary re...

Very Pleased
I've been saving this up for a while, so pardon if I gush: :D I'm about 80% of the way to completely replacing Arcserve and suitcases full of tapes in my machine room, using AISB and portable USB harddrives. This is cheaper, faster, more reliable, simpler, easier to carry -- we are *so* pleased with...

On the topic of pruning old backups: Does anyone remember an old backup software called Palindrome? They had a neato scheme called Towers Of Hanoi: it kept backups from 1 day ago, 2 days ago, 4 days ago, 8 days ago, etc... I loved it -- I had lots of recent copies, and few old copies, and a very few...

3 files not backed up
How to see past logs? The status email message says "3 files not backed up", but I can't find a way to actually see what those files were. The "log" tab shows the stuff I'm doing now, not the previous backup operation. The sessions tab will show what *was* backup, but in this cas...
