Compression during copy
The files are compressed because the source file has the compressed NTFS attribute set, simply copying the file to a location that is not compressed will decompress the file – that is why the file is compressed by AISBackup after copy. It would not be possible to use any other function of AISBackup ...

Backing up a backup
The disk to disk copy option should be used to copy the backup to another disk; an external drive could be used for this purpose. New Job / Select 'You choose what to backup' as the source and then click the copy / clone disk option. If you choose to schedule the copy you may choose to remove delete...

harrier ip?
Has harrier got a static IP address? Maybe \\nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn\iosafe will work, just in case it is a dns problem. AISBackup uses the standard API WNetOpenEnum and WNetEnumResource to search for computers and I noticed that this does not always work - I'll look at this problem again. I always assign s...

SAMBA
That's why I asked if the problem started with the latest release.
The Wake on LAN feature may be disabled.
I will look at setting up Centos / Samba here; I have a Virtual PC with Centos 2.6.18 on it, so I'll look for version 4.8.

Accessing network drives
AISBackup does not do anything fancy when accessing network drives. It uses the standard Windows API WNetUseConnection or WNetUseConnection3 to map a drive that has not been already mapped. The wake PC option was added in the latest version of AISBackup; so if previous versions of AISBackup worked (...

Drives over 2TB
I forgot to ask: Which version of AISBackup you are using? I guess you have read about the problems booting from drives over 3TB and that you operating system and PC meet the requirements. Many people just use drives over 2TB for storing data - We run Windows from an SSD to get a big performance inc...

USB3
I have looked at the problem of USB3 and I can confirm that AISBackup does not support USB3 as it is entirely based on the Windows 7 pre-installation environment, also known as WAIK. I did try booting from an actual Windows 7 installation DVD and installing USB drivers during the set-up; however thi...

Samba network backup problem
What Linux is the Samba drive running on? Is the OS hosting the Samba drive fully up to date? Is it possible that Linux is falling asleep during the backup? I know there was a problem with Windows sleeping during a backup and this has been fixed in the current version. VSS enables open exclusive fil...

number of files backed up
Sorry for the long wait, this is mainly owing to how to answer the question. AISBackup excludes temporary files from known temporary file folders and the folders that Microsoft suggest to exclude. AISBackup does not count the number of temporary files excluded from the excluded folders. If you are b...

AISBackup and VSS
The test version of AISBackup fixes a problem reporting problems with VSS and I would like you to try this version so that I have some idea of what is going wrong. This version will be released within a couple of weeks. VSS is the Volume Copy Shadow service and enables the backup of open exclusive (...

This is a problem with Microsoft's VSS but unfortunately AISBackup did not detect a failure and log the correct error message. It may be worth re-establishing the link to the backup on the NAS by doing the following: First: Remove the backup job, but DO NOT delete the backup when asked , click KEEP. Manage Backup / Remove Backup Job From List / Yes / Keep Second: Reinstate the backup: Tools / Open Job From Backup Media / (l...
