guesstimates are AIish enough for me.
Surely very complex AI can be added. But that probabbly takes as much CPU time as the compressing itself.
So I say again AISBackup with the AI of AI

Great! So AIS doesn't just stop/crash when it can't read/unpack a file/disc. That's better than the backup tool I'm using right now. I think AIS should never stop when a restore error is encountered. Restoring 80% is better than 0% This can be made as complex as you want. I'm thinking of the f...

Filetype based compression
My data consists of many types.
From highly compressible .txt to incompressible .mpg files.
To speed up backups and reduce CPU load I want to suggest that the
compression level is automatically selected based of extension.

What happens if for some reason a archive/DVD is corrupted?
Can it be skipped so that at least some data can be retrieved from the
backups?

Backup to LAN and burn to DVD
I'm doing daily backups to a server on my LAN.
How do I burn the archives to DVD so that they can be easily restored?
My backups need several DVDs to fit on.
If that's not possible I like to suggest a feature.
Create DVD sized .iso files ready for burning perhaps?
