Re: Copy backup to external Blu-ray failed on disk 5 of 6

Hi Jeff The overall copy should have the same 6 discs, with 6 and 7 following disc 4. You can see the contents of each disc by opening the 'cdi' file with notepad (drag and drop onto an open notepad document). The numerous error messages may be left over from some test code and will be removed in th...

Re: Copy backup to external Blu-ray failed on disk 5 of 6

Hi Jeff

To be honest I have not used this feature for years but I have an answer.

When a disc is removed the files will be reselected but added to a new disc. I removed disk_05 and re-ran the copy and the exact same files on disk_05 were reselected to be written to disk_09.

Re: Copy backup to external Blu-ray failed on disk 5 of 6

Hi Jeff It is a real shame that the backup re-ran as this will likely create different disc layouts if earlier backups are pruned. However there is a file that contains the contents of each disc for the current copy, and from this it should be possible to recreate disc 5 - even if an option needs to...

Re: Copy backup to external Blu-ray failed on disk 5 of 6

Hi Jeff

Which method of making the discs did you use, 'Mastered Joliet Format Disc' or 'Universal Disc Format'?

it may take a while to try and emulate the same conditions of the failure you had.

Re: Copy files - 1 way sync

An update has been made to the one way copy option to not select folders for candidates for deletion if all files in their root folder have been selected for copy. This is in pre-release here https://aiscl.co.uk/aisbackupbeta.php

Re: Copy files - 1 way sync

There is a parameter when setting up the copy job schedule to enable the automated deleting of files that no longer exist in the source folders: Manage Backup / AutoRun this Copy Job (MS Task Scheuduler) Select Remove deleted files from destination It may be wise not to set this until the possible p...

Re: Restore problem: not finding aibrecover files

The .aisbrecover file contains the database for the previous backup in case something goes wrong with the ‘current’ backup. AISBackup will be updated to prevent this file from being used when reinstating a backup as it is not a file that contains backup data – so this is a bug.

Re: Rebuild backup contents

As you found out the option is Manage Backup / Validate (Test) Backup / then click Repair Contents File . AISBackup does place a copy of the latest .bdb file in the backup destination and also creates a file called <Backup name>.previous.aibrecover, the .aibrecover file is actually a zip file and to...

Re: backup size keeps changing without running

The only think that I can think that would be causing this is Windows doing some housekeeping, for example updating the search index. I was going to suggest a test by only selecting folders that are unlikely to change, for example c:\Program Files.

Re: Using external hard drives

Yes, each drive contains a full backup for each session made to it, you probably have 100’s of backup sessions you could restore from. If you have a spare disk drive you could confirm this by restoring one or more of these sessions to it. If the backup contains Windows then the restored partition wi...

Recover disk space

Hi John

You could try the Manage Backup / Validate (Test) Backup option, that will remove any data that is no longer in the files database.

disk space following remove

Did you click the 'delete' buttons on the bottom right of the maintenance form? This performs the actual removal of the data from the backup.

Generation based backups

If you delete a file from the PC it is not automatically deleted from the backup, if you remove the file from the list of files to backup then it is not automatically deleted from the backup either. If you want to remove the file from the backup you should use the Manage Backup / Backup Maintenance ...

Hi Hugh

Is there anything in your anti-virus log (if any) that may indicate a problem?
