"Failed to erase CD" message

I've got AISBackup on a new installation -- my old 600MHz warhorse has finally been retired -- and I'm finding that, on a long backup (16 CDRWs), every few disks the job fails. I'm re-using disks, so I set it to erase the disk and then automatically continue (that feature is a great boon, by the way...

Hi Barry I've e-mailed you with the url of the ftp site, and there are a couple of backups for you to experiment with. Yes, I'm using build 200 -- I thought that one was ok :) It's on a Win 2K platform, and the server in question is BPFTPServer. Sorry -- which is AISBackup's 'different' FTP client y...

FTP restore

I'm backing up to an ftp server, but I can't get it to restore. If I select Tools | Open job from FTP server and get AISBackup to connect, it does, but won't show any subfolders of the set of folders in the server root (and the server is set to show subdirectories, because if I log in using a differ...

Barry -- I think Crispin's suggestions make a lot of sense. One suggestion to add to Crispin's list: 6. Sometimes there's a hiccup when AISBackup is uploading the zip files to the ftp server so that some of the files don't get uploaded although all the others do. If this happens the user is asked at...

Problems with scheduler

I'm running AISBackup under Win2k (SP4). Just recently, the scheduled backups have failed to start, and in the status column there's a message "Could not start". Other applications can be run successfully by the scheduler. I tried re-creating the scheduler entry; no luck. It's possible tha...

Hi Barry Yes, I think a "Tools / Erase Rewritable CD" option would be very useful -- you've got my vote there. I wouldn't worry too much about the problem of Roxio and Ahead taking ownership. It'd be useful to have a warning in the Erase dialog that it might be necessary to reboot after an...

Preparing CDRW disks before backup

Barry -- Is there a way of preparing CDRW disks for AISBackup's internal CD writer before starting a backup? I'm trying to avoid the situation in which a disk that hasn't been written to before by the internal writer, when it's inserted during a backup, causes the Roxio Project Selector to pop up, a...

Thanks, Barry -- I'll do as you suggest. I quite agree that scanning incoming e-mail is the solution; unfortunately, the corporate version of Norton Antivirus doesn't seem to set up a proxy POP server in the way that the consumer version does, and it's only configured for Microsoft Outlook and Lotus...

Effect of virus scanners on backed-up zip files

If viruses are in files that are backed up, e.g. during an Emergency System Backup, and then they're removed from the backup files during an anti-virus scan, does this affect a subsequent restore process? I ask because the increasing plague of spam means that the probability is going up that virus-c...

Hi Barry

100% for tact and diplomacy :)

Of course, if I'd scanned the menus, I'd have found that new item. It works well, thanks.

Inert command line generator

I'm trying to set up an automated job using the command line generator. I choose a script, and it appears in the top window in the generator, with a row of "No"s and "Yes"s filled in. However, all the checkboxes are greyed out and the box showing the command doesn't have any para...

I installed the beta, and hit problems. When I try to do a backup (using the built-in CD writer; it's just a short backup, about 65MB when zipped) it appears to write the files to the CDRW, ejects the disk, reloads it, comes up with the dialog saying something's gone wrong and please manually re-loa...

Hi Barry -- Just completed a run -- the built-in CD writer performed very well; much easier than using DirectCD. Everything I'd expect of a Guinness drinker :) May I offer a suggestion about the dialog that appears when a new CD-RW has been inserted? When you click the "erase" button, you ...
