Disk-to-Disk log says "Compressing" for some files

Running 3.2 build 428 on Windows 7 32-bit. Doing a disk-to-disk copy, and I notice the log file says many files such as .jpg, .dsd and others are "compressing" For example: .... Compressing F:\...\somefile.jpg Copied F:\...\somefile.jpg .... Is it really compressing and uncompressing these files as ...

Hi, Barry, Thanks for the info. All of the restorations are into empty directories. > you may have to do a considerable amount of manual security setting. Exactly. That's what I hope to avoid. It may take a while to create a list for a test case. However, there is a lot of good information in the li...

Confirmed that two original directories with identical permissions (as reported by cacls) come out different when I restore as a different user: (ls command output created in cygwin shell to show file ownership) Original ( before backup ) drwx------+ 1 user-N group-N 0 Jan 2 2009 dir-1/ drwx------+ ...

NTFS Security Settings

Edited to add: Running AISBackup version 2.8.0.385 on Windows XP SP3. Backup destination is external USB hard drive. AISBackup version I seem to be confused by the NTFS security settings. Our company is changing windows domains. So I backed up while logged-in as the old user "DN\ux" (domain "N" user...

Exclude registry from restore to new destination?

Old computer had 12 GB hard drive. New computer has 300 GB hard drive. The new computer has a complete new OS install and the data has been copied over already. However, I would like to keep a complete image of the old hard drive on the new computer. I have a full backup of the old drive already. I ...

Request: "Expert" mode for third party mastering

I Would like to see an "expert" mode for third party mastering that does not do any checking of drives or media -- just create the disk image in the staging area and then trust me to get it onto the media somehow. One application of this is where the DVD writer is on a different machine where AISBac...

"Change Backup Destination" limited options?

Still very happy overall with AISBackup after more than three years of making backups. Thankfully I have not "needed" any of them yet! When I create a new backup job, I get a nice dialog, AISBackup: Backup job set-up Choose the destination of the backup This allows me to choose from among the many d...

Barry, Thanks for the suggestion. I *think* I followed your instructions: Made a backup to disk of my original user profile. Opened the destination folder in windows explorer (C:\Documents and Settings\New_Profile) Selected "Restore from Backup". Then in the "Select Files to Restore" dialog I select...

backup/restore without keeping full path?

Here is what I want to do: Backup C: \A\B\C \123.fil Restore to C: \D\E\F \123.fil Instead, it would appear I have only the following two options: Backup C: \A\B\C \123.fil Restore C: \A\B\C \123.fil Or Backup C: \A\B\C \123.fil Restore C: \D\E\F \A\B\C \123.fil Both backup/restore and disk-to-disk-...

Use USB flash as CD staging when no CD writer?

I need to run a backup on a laptop that has no CD writer. It's an old laptop with a relatively small hard disk, so the backup files fit on my usb flash drive. However, if I do this then the backup set is too large to fit on a CD. Is there any way to configure the backup to use the usb flash drive as...

Kudos to AISCL

I have not run a backup in quite some time (I know, shame on me!) and still had 2.0 build 250 installed. The incremental backup preview seemed unusually large, so I expected there were some large files that I might want to exclude from the backup. However, I found it quite inconvenient because sizes...
