Re: Test Failed

Hi Brian, I did some research and found that filenames can include the division slash / that looks the same, and I can confirm that this causes validation to fail in the current version of AISBackup. The file is backed up but the validation removes it. Disabling validation keeps the file in the back...

Re: Test Failed

Hi Brian, Please supply a filename for me to test. However, the forward slash is still listed as an invalid character for filenames. There is a massive upgrade to AISBackup underway and it is hoped a beta version of this will be ready some time in May 2025. Amongst other things some dates were tripp...

Re: Progress on bug sending backup logs

I’m sorry but it appears that the bug report was not received for some reason. I checked the Zen e-mail parameters on their website and they are pretty much as you used, however you did not mention the SMTP host setting, but I’m pretty sure you entered this correctly. Zen suggest using SMTP port 465...

Re: Question about pruning

The default pruning in AISBackup is the ‘Advanced pruning’ option, this keeps a number of daily, weekly and monthly backups. You may change this setting by using the Session settings. Manage Backup / Change Backup Job Settings / Session Settings / Select Session Based / Then Keep and choose the numb...

Re: Selective compression

I re-checked the AISBackup code, AISBackup already uses the quickest zip method, it is still slower than using the uncompressed option, but mitigated when the backup job is used again to make a new session as only new and changed files are actually backed up. AISBackup’s performance can be improved ...

Re: Selective compression

Compression level in zip files is set between 0 and 9, where 0 is no compression and 9 is maximum compression. Tests were run using the different compression levels and it was found that using the level 2 gave the best speed vs. compression ratio, albeit 20+ years ago. I am compiling some statistics...

Re: Selective compression

AISBackup already maintains a list of files that should not be compressed, but for some reason did not contain .JPG. The list is maintained in Tools / Do not Compress File List . AISBackup maintains a list of compression stats so can be updated automatically by selecting the Auto Update button, howe...

Re: Encryption

You have posted the random password, but you cannot use that in AISBackup, you must use the original password you used when you setup the backup job. There is no way to convert the encrypted password back to your original password. You must have set-up the backup to 'don't ask for a backup on restor...

Re: Bug report: Foto's

If you make a new backup where only the photos are selected, and leave all other settings to their defaults, does this now work? I’ve never seen this problem before in 24 years. If so on the main AISBackup screen selected (just click it) press * until ‘*** All Debug Mode ***’ is displayed in the cap...

Re: Encryption

Since making my previous reply I have done some research into cracking zip file passwords and I used a popular password cracker to do some tests. Using a password of 7 characters the password was found within 5 seconds, using the same password with AISBackup’s password encryption method the password...

Re: Encryption

AISBackup uses zip file encryption, it has an option to make a much longer password than what you supply, i.e. the password itself is one way encrypted. For those concerned about security it is probably best to backup to disks that have been encrypted with BitLocker (or a third party encryption appl...

Re: Transferred folder

Hi Hugh, I just checked the source code and there is no folder called 'Transferred' so I'm not sure what this is. I think the safest thing to do is do is to rename the folder to see if anything fails. Does the folder contain AISBackup files? You could also check that these files exist in the backup ...

Re: Long backup misbehaving

Hi Hugh

If you can e-mail me the backup job files by using the Help / Bug Report option I should be able to find out which file this is.

Re: Long backup misbehaving

Hi Hugh

I looks like AISBackup isn't able to replace some files on the server, this may be because of security settings or the server is holding the files open for write. Is it possible for you to make another backup job that only backs up this failing file for testing?
