Glitch with DVD+RW packet writing

Hello, I'm using build 287 on XP SP2 and found a glitch. I use DVD+RW with Roxio Drag and Drop packet writing (have for years relatively uneventfully). The first DVD was written properly. Upon inserting the second DVD I chose within Drag and Drop to quick format the disc (as I always do), naming it ...

Build 270 report

OK, build 270 didn't resolved the startup time issue, but did result in Drive D being backed up once again. I'm also now able to modify the Files and Folders list, so it appears the startup time is the only issue. I'm not aware of any network drives in the backup list, so I'd be surprised if that's ...

OK, the bug report was sent twice, they should be identical. When I do the bug report or registration AIS Backup reports "couldn't resolve recipient, attempting SMTP". The email does get sent, but the message from AIS Backup makes it appear it didn't; perhaps there could be positive confirmation? Th...

Problem w/2.2

Upon installing V2.2 build 269 I attempted to run a backup. I find that it is only looking for files on my C: drive, not my D: drive. If I go to "Modify Files and Folders list" the progress bar moves a few segments, then goes away and drops me back to the main program, and "Exception: ERangeError: R...

I think this would be sufficient, as I'm really just trying to see if there are any big files which I don't want to back up. Seeing the size of each folder (assuming it provides the total of all subfolders) would be fine, since it would be quick to drill down on any big ones. Excluding from this scr...

Do new folders get backed up?

I originally created a backup job by starting with a recommended backup job, then adding additional exclusions to directories I didn't want backed up. As time goes on and new directories are created, am I correct that these will by default be backed up unless they fall within another directory which...

Feature request

Hi, A feature I've long wanted which I think would be universally appreciated is a way to preview files which will be backed up sorted by size. Whenever I do a backup I invariably have a few large files (videos or whatever) which I wouldn't have chosen to backup, but often miss if I go through direc...

How to restore FTP backup from DVD?

Hi, I've done an FTP backup over my home network, because you apparently can't Windows-share a DVD drive using a packet writer. Once the backup was done I took all the files in the FTP directory and copied them to a DVD. How can I restore directly from this DVD? Trying to load from backup media does...

Can't restore from network drive!

My laptop hard drive crashed, so I'm attempting to restore from my backup disks. I'm using the Ultimate Windows Boot CD (http://www.windowsubcd.com/), which allows booting the laptop and loading XP from the CD rather than having to install XP to the hard drive (it's an amazingly useful tool). I'm ab...

Re: Linux directory recursion loop found

You are quite right. There is a folder called Proc which contains a folder called 4574 which contains a folder called Root, which is a pointer to ‘ the real Root (\)’, which of course holds Proc, 4574 etc… AISBackup would continue to navigate this virtual tree until it runs out of system resources....

Hi, Barry, It's a standard SuSE 9.0 Professional installation on a laptop. When I made a backup using tar it was about 4GB using gzip. There are about 260K files, the deepest directory I could find was about ten levels deep (in the Linux source tree). As I mentioned, I'm on a 100MB LAN. The desktop ...

After trying I think there may be a problem. AIS Backup spent over thirty minutes calculating the backup before I gave up (the progress bar would go from about 50% back to 30% repeatedly). My assumption is that perhaps it's not handling linked directories properly and it's getting into some sort of ...

Can I back up a Linux network share?

My work laptop is running Linux with Samba, which means I can mount its hard disk via Windows. I'm attempting a backup, and it appears to be proceeding as expected. Can you tell me whether there might be any problems I should be aware of?
